Abstract

1,163,507. Rectifying. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. 8 May, 1968 [10 May, 1967], No. 21781/68. Heading H2F. In a series arrangement of rectifier banks 4, 5, each bank is by-passed by a controlled rectifier 8, 10 and a switch 9, 11, means being provided, responsive to the initial closing movement of the contacts of one of switches 9, 11, to turn on the by-pass controlled rectifier 8 and inhibit triggering of the associated rectifier bank 4. The triggering and inhibiting means 13, 12 may be responsive to the capacitance or inductance of contacts of switches 9, 11 or, as shown, may be controlled by auxiliary contacts 14, 15 associated with the operating members 16, 17 of switches 9, 11. The by-pass devices 8, 10 may be ignitrons, or thyristors and reduce the loading on switches 9, 11. An optical link or isolating transformer may be included in the control circuits of rectifiers 4, 5, 8, 10.
