Abstract
1,163,453. Feeding webs; folding paper. MASCHINENFABRIK GOEBEL G.m.b.H. 24 Jan., 1967 [2 Feb., 1966], No. 3597/67. Heading B8R. In a printing or paper processing machine having apparatus for transversely perforating a web 1 at intervals particularly for depositing the web in a zig-zag pile, an oscillating roller 22 acts upon the web immediately in front of the perforating blades 2, 3, the amplitude of oscillation being adjustable so that the web is deflected a sufficient amount to effect equal spacing of the perforated lines. As shown, a fixed perforating blade 2 coacts with a rotary blade 3 and the roller 22 is used to correct unequal spacing of the lines of perforations which may occur due to irregularities in the machine gearing. The roller 22 is carried by an arm 20 pivoted at 19 and oscillated by links 17, 18 and an eccentric pin 16 on a disc 12 driven by a chain-and-sprocket drive 13, 14, 15 from the knife shaft 4. The shaft of the disc 12 is carried by a plate 6 pivoted on the shaft 4 and adjustable by means of a lever 11 having a pin 7 engaging a slot in the plate. Movement of the lever 11 alters the amount the web 1 is deflected by the roller. Such adjustment could, however, be effected by radial adjustment of the pin 16 or adjustment of the length of the arms of the linkage 17, 18, 20. As shown, the disc 12 makes one revolution for each two revolutions of the blade 3 and two rollers 22, 23 one at each side of the web are provided, the arrangement being such that when the adjusting lever 11 is in a middle position, neither of the rollers contacts the web during their oscillation. Movement of the lever 11 from such position causes one or the other roller during its oscillation to contact alternate sections of the web and alter slightly the position of alternate perforation lines to effect equal spacing of the lines. The selection of the roller to be employed depends on whether the zig-zag pile formed by incorrectly aligned perforation or folding lines leans one way or the other. The two rollers 22, 23 may be on the same side of the web and carried by levers arranged so that one or other is operative. If the shaft 4 carries two perforating knives which are not exactly 180 degrees apart, the disc 12 is driven so that it makes one revolution for each revolution of the shaft 4 so that the roller 22 or 23 in use contacts alternate sections of the web to alter slightly the position of alternate perforated lines.
