Abstract

116,337. Duffek, A. June 5, 1917. Inhalers; pneumatic appliances. - Apparatus for medical treatment of the lungs &c. by intermittent blasts of compressed air comprises a far producing a continuous current of air, a filter or inhalation vessel n connected by a tube to the mouthpiece &c., and a valve m or other device for periodically interrupting the compressed air supply. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the fan, driven by a motor b, is fitted with blades e mounted in an extension g of the casing c so as to draw in air through openings f, and with blades h forcing the air through the conduit i. An interrupter m formed like a plug-cock is mounted in an interchangeable inset k in the conduit i and is driven by variable gearing from the fan shaft. Vapours produced by an electric heater n<1> may be passed to the receptacle n. The fitting r for the inhalation tube is interchangeable so that the bore of the outlet may be varied. The interrupter m may be replaced by a perforated or notched disk rotated over the outlet from the fan, by a throttle resembling an iris-diaphragm, by a siren-like device, Fig. 6, or by a reciprocating piston, Fig. 7.
