Abstract

1,163,189. Pneumatic despatch apparatus. LAMSON ENG. CO. Ltd. 14 Aug., 1968 [22 Aug., 1967],,No. 38538/67. Heading B8A. [Also in Division E2] A carrier for use in a pneumatic tube system is provided with a hinged end portion which can be opened to permit loading and unloading of the carrier and which can be secured in its closed position. The hinged end portion 3 comprises a felt pad 4 secured to a plate 8 which is formed with an eccentric arcuate slot 10, a plate 11 which is hinged to the hollow cylindrical body portion 1, and a guide plate 12 formed with a recess 13 at its circumference. A cam-plate 14 is provided with a pin 15 which passes through the recess 13 into the slot 10 and with a projecting tongue which is capable of passing through a slot 20 in the wall of the body portion 1. A screw member 7 passes through apertures in a further plate 17, in plates 8, 11, 12, 14 and in the pad 14 and is secured by a nut 6. In operation, rotation of the end portion 3 causes rotation of the plate 8, the resulting movement of the eccentric slot 10 in the plate 8 producing movement of the pin 15 on the cam-plate 14 to project the tongue through the slot 20 to secure the end portion 3 or to withdraw the tongue from the slot to allow the end portion to be opened.
