Abstract
1,162,233. Fluid-pressure brakes. OERLIKON-BUHRLE HOLDING A.G. 2 Nov., 1966 [2 Nov., 1965], No. 49231/66. Heading F2F. A manually-operated release valve for compressed-fluid braking systems of the kind used on rail vehicles which comprise a control reservoir RC normally maintained charged to a predetermined pressure, is of the kind comprising a valve 19 for releasing fluid (e.g. compressed air) from the control reservoir and adapted to be lifted, against the closing action of a spring 20, by a control rod 22 slidable within a coaxial piston 9 and actuable by a handle 31, the piston including rod portions 11, 12 surrounding the control rod and being acted on by the pressure in brake pipe CG in opposition to that in a chamber 14 which is connected to atmosphere by a restriction (not shown) and via passages to the chamber 26 below the valve 19, so that when the brake pipe is vented the valve 19 is maintained open by the piston rod 11 once handle 31 has been temporarily actuated. In order to ensure complete exhausting of the control reservoir, the passages 23, 24, 25, 27 and 28 are formed both in the control rod and in the piston rods, the passage 23 being of substantially circular section and either concentrically formed within the control rod, as shown, or eccentrically, e.g. in the form of a groove.
