Abstract
1,162,138. Centrifugal governors. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Nov. 29, 1966 [Dec. 1, 1965], No. 50929/65. Heading G3B. A mechanism for controlling the loading of a centrifugal governor comprises a member 14 movable linearly by an operator, a lever 15 pivotally mounted on the member, means 23 for transmitting movement of the lever to the governor, first and second springs 24, 29 acting upon the lever through respective parts, the part 32 through which the second spring acts carrying a pivotally mounted first abutment 35 for a third spring 37 acting at its other end upon a second oppositely-disposed abutment 35, and means 39, 41, 42 for angularly moving the second abutment about the pivotal connection of the first abutment in response to changes in a selected parameter, such as the exhaust temperature of an aircraft jet engine. The means 23 are carried by a lever 11, pivoted at 12 and arranged to actuate the governor sleeve as described in Specification 1,128,221. The part 32 consists of a bell-crank lever pivoted at 33 and acting on the lever 15 through a roller 34. The spring 24 acts on the lever 15 through a lever 25 and a roller 25a and controls the idling speed of the engine while the spring 29 has its effect modified by the spring 37 and controls the engine at higher speeds. A device responsive to temperature, an amplifier and a motor rotate the means 39, 41, 42 which contain a gear and quadrant.
