Abstract

1,161,738. Fuses. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 6 Dec., 1966 [7 Dec., 1965], No. 51795/65. Heading H2G. A fuse link comprises a tubular body 3 having two end members supporting between them one or more fuse elements 11 and resilient means in contact with the body and end members to seal the housing and functioning as a valve to allow venting to atmosphere gases formed within the housing, the pressure of which exceeds a predetermined value. The resilient means comprises a band 8 and/or a flexible shroud 5. An annular ring 6 forming part of an end member, is spaced by e.g. copper, spacers 7 from the wall of the body 3 and has a lip 9 overlying the end of the body and a lip 10 for supporting the fuse element(s). The vent passages for gases are of such length that substantial de-ionization of the gases is allowed before they emerge from the fuse link 3 band 8 may be of silicone-rubber, the shroud 5 of nylon and the body 3 of a laminate construction having an inner wall of silicon resin bonded mica and the remaining part of silicon bonded fibreglass, as described in Specification 1,109,860, or alternatively the body may be of melamine bonded fibreglass. The fuse elements may be of the type described in Specification 1,086,324.
