Abstract

1,161,276. Walking beam conveyors for furnaces. KOPPERS-WISTRA-OFENBAU G.m.b.H. 13 March, 1968 [18 March, 1967], No. 12238/68. Heading F4B. In a walking beam furnace having a walking beam 1 disposed between two stationary beams 2 and rigidly connected to a top frame 3 which has a number of wheels 4 bearing against inclined planes 5 provided on the upper part of a bottom frame 6, the periodic step-by-step movement of the walking beam 1 is effected by a horizontal cylinder 10 and piston 11 together with an inclined cylinder 14 and piston 13. Horizontal movement of the beam 1, is produced by applying hydraulic pressure to the cylinder 14 only. Upward movement of the beam 1 is produced by the simultaneous application of pressure to both the cylinders 10 and 14; the piston 11 which is linked through cylinder 10 to the top frame 3 is also connected to an upstanding portion 12 of the bottom frame 6. The frame 6 has wheels 7 which run on rails 8 on the furnace bottom 9. The beams 1, 2 are immersed through plates 18 in sand troughs 17 which have rollers 19 resting on inclined planes 20 on the furnace bottom.
