Abstract

1,161,007. Copolymers of 1,3-pentadiene and 2-methyl-2-butene. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. 24 April, 1967 [9 June, 1966], No. 18754/67. Heading C3P. A copolymer comprising 1,3-pentadiene units and 2-methyl-2-butene units is claimed and may be prepared by polymerizing a mixture of 1,3-pentadiene and 2-methyl-2-butene in the presence of an anhydrous halide e.g. chloride, of aluminium, tin or boron. In examples the polymerization was carried out in heptane using a mixture of the above monomers with 2-pentene, isoprene, 2,3-dimethyl-1-butene, 3-methyl pentene, 2-methyl-1-pentene, 2-methyl-2-pentene, piperylene dimers, and other C 5 and C 6 unsaturated hydrocarbons.
