Abstract
1,160,765. Tri-ruthenium dodecacarbonyl. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 10 Aug., 1967 [10 Aug., 1966], No. 35788/66. Heading C1A. Tri-ruthenium dodecacarbonyl is made by reacting (i) an inorganic Ru salt (ii) an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal compound of an organic acid or an enolizable compound and (iii) a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen in a solvent. Component (ii) may be replaced by the alkali metal or alkaline earth metal and a free organic acid or enolizable compound. The preferred Ru salt is ruthenium tri-chloride and the preferred solvents are methanol, ethanol and dimethyl formamide. The organic acids may be succinic, stearic, acetic, benzoic, and naphthenic acids, the enolizable compounds may be acetylacetone, methyl acetoacetate, and naphthols. Examples are given of the reaction of ruthenium chloride in methanol with (1) sodium acetyl-acetonate (2) sodium metal and acetyl acetone and (3) sodium naphthenate.
