Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <F\1> wherein B = N is a tertiary amino- or tertiary amino-N-oxide group, R is an alkylidene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or a monocyclic aromatic-methylene group, X is H2 or an oxygen atom, and Z is a carbonyl or BETA-hydroxymethylene group, acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof, and their preparation by reaction of a compound of formula <F\1> with a carbonyl compound R = O at 50-150 DEG C. in an organic solvent in the presence of a strong base, followed if desired by (a) reduction of the 17-keto group to a hydroxy group by an alkali metal borohydride, (b) formation of an amine oxide by reaction with hydrogen peroxide, or (c) salt formation.
