Abstract

1,160,479. Rolling. SCHLOEMANN A.G. 4 Dec., 1967 [7 Dec., 1966], No. 55071/67. Heading B3M. [Also in Division F2] A rolling mill coupling, for releasably connecting an articulated driving spindle 15 and a roll journal 1, includes link box 2 which has cavities at opposite ends for receiving the spindle and journal, and which carries pawls 5 pivoted to a fixed plate 7. The pawls are spring urged outwardly so that noses 5<SP>1</SP> of the pawls are received in a transverse, undercut, groove 3 in the journal 1 to retain the journal within the link box. The pawls are releasable from the groove by pins 11 which are movable radially inwardly, by means of pressure pistons (not shown) carried by members displaceably arranged on the mill housing. The release of the link box from the splined or flattened roll journal is relatively simple and quick, in order to facilitate rapid roll changing in the mill.
