Abstract

1,165,619. Extrusion press. DAVY & UNITED ENG. CO. Ltd. 2 May, 1968 [4 May, 1967], No. 20855/67. Heading B3P. In an extrusion press the die 6 is supported in an anchor member 5 releasably coupled to a die holder A and slidable in a direction normal to the press axis between a first operative position and a second non-operative position (that of the replacement die holder B in Fig. 1) in which the die holder may be uncoupled from the anchor member by means 7. The die holder and anchor member are preferably connected by a dovetail joint and the means 7 is a carriage movable parallel to the press axis for slidably removing the holder from the anchor, at the same time introducing a new die holder in its place. The anchor member has means for receiving a billet 28 prior to being loaded into the container 20 for extrusion. The die is held in the die holder by a slot 26 which is inclined at an angle to the direction of movement of the die holder.
