Abstract
1,160,442. Water heating boilers. IDEAL OIL BURNERS Ltd. 18 April, 1967 [28 April, 1966], No. 18701/66. Heading F4A. The invention relates to water heating boilers comprising a combustion chamber 1d having top, back, side and bottom walls formed by walls of the jacket through which the water to be heated is made to flow. According to the invention the front wall 5a of the combustion chamber is formed by a solid wall extending from the top wall and terminating in spaced relation to the bottom wall 3a, the lower end of the front wall having an extension 7a directed towards and terminating short of the back wall 4a of the chamber and being in spaced relation to the bottom wall so that combustion gases will be constrained to flow from the chamber round the outer end of the extension, along a channel defined by the extension and the bottom wall, upwardly over the front wall and along a channel 12 provided on the upper side of the top wall. The front wall may be formed by a metal plate, for example of stainless steel, the extension being integral with the front wall. Alternatively the front wall and extension may be formed by fire bricks. The boiler may be fired by oil or gas using burners operating at high, medium or low pressure.
