Abstract

1,160,258. Reforming. AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS Inc. 28 Nov., 1966 [1 March, 1966], No. 53155/66. Heading C5E. A method for increasing the octane number of a liquid hydrocarbon by treatment over a platinum catalyst comprises fractionating a primary full range reformate of liquid hydrocarbons of 85 to 93 octane (F1 clear) to provide a heartcut having an initial boiling point of at least 70‹ C. and an end boiling point below 170‹ C., whereby normal hexane and lower boiling paraffins and polycyclic aromatics are substantially excluded, reforming said heartcut over supported platinum catalyst at severe conditions and blending the reformed heartcut with the remaining liquid forerun and bottoms components of the fractionated primary full range reformate to obtain a full range gasoline having an F1 clear octane number greater than 100. Conditions for the severe reforming may be hydrogen to hydrocarbon mol ratio 3 to 8. S.V. 1 to 3 v./v./hr., pressure 15 to 30 atmospheres, and temperature 480‹ to 550‹ C.
