Abstract

1,160,154. Separating coarse and fine fibres. WOOLCOMBERS Ltd. 1 March, 1968 [4 March, 1967], No. 10360/67. Headings D1F and D1N. A machine for separating coarse hair fibres from wool fibres comprises a plurality of cylinders each covered with wire clothing, mounted in a casing, and rotating at a peripheral speed of about 500 yards per minute so that some of the hair fibres are centrifugally separated from the remainder of the mixture of fibres fed to the cylinder by feed rollers. The remaining fibres on the cylinder are striped by a doffing cylinder having a comb or blade to transfer the fibres to a conveyor for transference to the next cylinder. About 12-24 cylinders are needed to substantially remove all the hair fibres. One motor drives a pair of cylinders. Beneath each cylinder is a collection bin for the hair fibres.
