1,159,848. Extruding meat patties. UKRAINSKY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I KONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUT PRODOVOLSTVENNOGO MASHINOSTROENIA. 30 June, 1967, No. 30301/67. Heading B5A. An extrusion apparatus particularly intended for the production of meat patties, comprises a nozzle 2 having a curvilinear outer surface and a knife 4 having a correspondingly shaped surface which allows the knife to be slid across orifice 5. The knife is mounted via a bushing 8 and sleeves 9 on a projection 7 of nozzle 2 and is releasably held in position by a screw 10 whose inner end engages a groove on the projection. In operation, knife 4 is reciprocated by means of lever 11, and to form patties, meat paste and casing material is extruded as described in Specification 1,136,348, the downstream end of the casing being closed by positioning knife 4 to cover orifice 5, moving the knife to allow the extrusion of a length of meat paste and subsequently moving the knife to cut an unfilled portion of the casing whilst at the same time deforming the casing to cover the upstream end of the extruded meat length.
