Abstract
1,159,212. Glass cloth laminates; moulding reinforced articles. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 3 April, 1967 [13 July, 1966], No. 15199/67. Headings B5A and B5N. [Also in Divisions C3 and F2] Glass cloth laminates are produced by charging to a cavity of a matched metal die mould a polyurethane formed by admixing a polyether prepared by propoxylating a glycerol/sucrose mixture, glycerol, an uncured epoxy resin and tolylene diisocyanate, placing 12 plies of glass cloth discs into the cavity, followed by additional polyurethane, placing the male part of the mould in the cavity and curing the laminate under pressure and elevated temperature. The laminate is then demoulded and postcured at elevated temperature in a circulating air oven. Filament wound structures are produced from a similar polyurethane which is used to fill the resin bath of a filament winding machine. Glass roving is fed through the resin bath and wound on to a mandrel. After completion of the winding the madrel is removed from the winding machine and transferred to a press where the wound structure is cured under pressure at elevated temperature.
