Abstract
1,159,006. Hydrocarbon hydroperoxides. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 21 June, 1967 [11 July, 1966; 27 Oct., 1966; 12 Jan., 1967], Nos. 30973/66, 48255/66 and 1690/67. Heading C2C. Hydrocarbon hydroperoxides are obtained by liquid phase oxidation of alkanes, aralkanes and cycloalkanes with molecular oxygen in a reactor in which the walls have been pretreated with a polyphosphate, the oxygen partial pressure being greater than 1 atmos. absolute. The preferred polyphosphate is sodium pyrophosphate. The reaction is preferably effected at 80-140‹ C. Oxidation initiators may be included in the reaction solution, e.g. peroxides or azobisisobutyronitrile. Examples relate to the oxidation of isopentane to 2-methyl-2-hydroperoxy-butane, 3 - methylheptane to 3 - methyl - 3 - hydroperoxy heptane, and cumene to α-cumene hydroperoxide.
