Abstract

1,158,761. Vehicle driving arrangements; vehicle independent suspensions. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 12 April, 1967, No. 16779/67. Headings B7D and B7H. In a motor vehicle with two rear wheels 1 which are independently sprung and independently driven by two motors 2, each motor 2 is mounted on the sprung mass of the vehicle and drives its associated wheel which is mounted on a driven half shaft 3 borne by a casing 4 at the end of a semi-trailing arm 7. Each arm 7 is mounted on the sprung mass through cylindrical rubber torsion spring arranged concentrically of the pivot axis X-X. The wheel is driven through a V-belt 9 and a flat belt 10, the axis of the shaft 13 supporting pulleys 12 and 16 intersecting the axis X-X. The two belt drives may be replaced by two chain drives.
