[Also in Division C7] Plastic surfaces such as polyolefins or polypropylenes are treated to improve their adhesiveness to printing ink or mixed coatings by etching with a composition comprising phosphoric acid having dissolved therein from 3- 6% by weight of the solution of hexavalent chromium, at least 40% of which is in the form of an alkali metal (e.g. potassium) dichromate, sufficient sulphuric acid not in excess of 40% by weight of the phosphoric acid to dissolve the hexavalent chromium, and not more than 30% by weight of the solution of water. The chromium may be in the form of a mixture of an alkali metal dichromate and chromium trioxide.
