In a rotary pump of the non-lubricating, sliding - rocking vane type, comprising a casing 1, Fig. 1, having a cylindrical bore within which a rotor 2 is eccentrically mounted and locates at its centre a stationary shaft 4 which carries each on an independent rotatable ring 8, a vane 3 which passes through a slot in the rotor towards but with slight clearance with respect to the cylindrical bore and includes an axially-extending rib 9 separating the pump inlet 5 from its outlet 6, the rib 9 includes at least one axially-extending groove 10, Fig. 2 providing a labyrinth seal to prevent leakage from the high-pressure to the low-pressure side of the pump.
