Abstract

1,157,908. Valves. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd. 6 Oct., 1967 [15 Nov., 1966], No. 51237/66. Heading F2V. A butterfly valve 10 comprises a closure member 14 located within a flow channel 11, a tubular housing 16 apertured at 29 and disposed about a further aperture 15 formed in the channel, and a linkage 20, 21, 22 connecting a flanged member 19 to the closure member 14, the flanged member being attached to a diaphragm 18 and being subjected to the bias of a spring 25, the tension of which is adjustable by means of a scuffing plate 24 and packing rings 26. In operation, upon the pressure in an enclosure within which the valve is mounted, such as an aircraft cabin, exceeding a predetermined limit, a sensing arrangement, not shown, causes a corresponding increase in a control pressure applied to duct 27, this increase being such as to overcome the spring bias and enclosure pressure acting on the underside of the diaphragm so causing the valve to open and allowing the pressure excess to be relieved. A damper (not shown), may be provided on one of the bosses which support the closure member spindle 13, in order to resist fluctuating movements of the spindle 13 and valve closure member 14.
