Abstract

[Also in Division C7] A monorail carriage for the transport of ladles of molten metal along the casting bay of a steelworks moves on electrically driven rollers 43 along track 44, lateral thrust being resisted by rails 48, 49 against which bear rollers 47. Mounted on main beam 41 are two guide boxes 50 within which arms 52 are caused to move in a vertical direction by an electric motor (56), the arms at their lower ends being shaped to support the ladle. The carriage is independent of the shop-floor and is at a level between the casting crane and the truck on which the ladle arrives from the furnace.
