Abstract
1,156,466. Sintered molybdenum disilicide. SIGRI ELECTROGRAPHIT G.m.b.H. 23 Feb., 1967 [23 Feb., 1966], No. 8769/67. Heading C1A. [Also in Division C7] Sintered MoSi 2 containing not more than 5% Mo 5 Si 3 and not more than 1% oxides, and which has a porosity less than 5% is made by cold-pressing a MoSi 2 powder with a grain size of 4-40 microns and a Si content of not less than 36À5% and an oxygen content of not more than 1%, the remainder being Mo and then sintering the compact. The MoSi powder may be isostatically pressed or mixed with polyvinyl alcohol and water and extruded. Sintering is carried out in argon, hydrogen or in atmosphere containing Si vapour, e.g. at 1600‹ or 1700‹ C.
