Abstract
1,156,194. Polyurethane filaments. KURASHIKI RAYON K.K. 26 Oct., 1966, No. 48112/66. Heading B5B. A polyurethane filament is produced by dissolving a cured polyurethane elastomer in an aliphatic amide, aliphatic sulphoxide, aliphatic ketone or an aliphatic ether to give a spinning solution, wet spinning this solution into a coagulating bath comprising methanols ethanol, propanol, butanol, aliphatic hydrocarbons having 4-50 carbon atoms or their esters, aldehydes, ketones, nitriles, amides, amines, sulphonic acid esters, ureides, urethanes or halogenated hydrocarbons to produce a filament and drawing this to an elongation at break of not more than 150%. Suitable elastomer solvents are dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetamide, dimethyl sulphoxide, tetrahydrofuran and dioxan. The elastomer preferably has a molecular weight of 800 to 2000 and its concentration in the spinning solution is normally from 5-30% by weight. Further baths may also contain the above coagulating agents. Preferably the fibre is drawn whilst it still contains the solvent. Heat setting may be effected after drawing.
