Abstract

1,156,106. Door latches. NATIONAL LOCK CO. 8 Feb., 1968, No. 6275/68. Heading E2A. A door lock comprises an inner knob and an outer knob connected to a sleeve and tube respectively and a push button actuated spring loaded sliding locking bar with a lateral leg which is slidable in a slot in the tube and is projected into a slot in a stationary housing when the push button is actuated to render the outer handle inoperative. The lock has an inner and outer knob 10, 13 and a latch bolt with a housing 73. A housing 31 has journalled one end of the .slotted tube 12, the knob 10 being anchored to the other end. The inner knob 13 is mounted on a split sleeve 14, an inner concentric tube 27 projects through the sleeve 14 and the housing into the tube 12. The sleeve 14 is connected by detent 19 to the inner tube 27 for rotation together and the tube 12 has a projection 35 which engages a groove in the tube 27 for limited relative rotation. Tubes 12 and 27 are slotted for passage of the latch bolt slider 71 and the latch bolt is retracted by rotating either tube and thereby rocking a spring loaded push plate 55 in contact with the latch slider to depress the slider and release mechanism to withdraw the bolt. The locking bar 41 is slidable in the tube 27 and has a lateral leg 47 slidable in the slot 15 of the tube 12 when the bar is projected to its inner position by pressing the push button. The leg 47 engages a slot 51 in an end wall of the housing and retains the outer knob against rotation. A tooth 54 on the locking bar engages in a slot in the push plate and holds the locking bar in its inner position. The locking bar is released by rotation of the inner knob thereby disengaging the tooth from the pushplate.
