Abstract

115,598. Maseyk, A. E. W. Dec. 15, 1917 Compensating for wear.-Brake mechanism is automatically adjusted to compensate for wear by interposing in the brake connexions a pair of toggle links 6 the middle points of which are adapted to be moved apart by a right and left handed screw 2 working in nuts 3. The screw member 2 carries a ratchet wheel 1 engaged by a pawl 11 on the link 10 which may be connected by a link 9 to the crank 7 between which and the connecting-rod the toggles 6 are interposed. If the movement of the connexions in applying the brake is excessive, the pawl 11 slips over a tooth of the ratchet wheel which then receives a partial rotation of the return movement.
