Abstract

1,155,983. Etching. MEAD CORP. 19 May, 1966 [28 May, 1965], No. 52303/68. Divided out of 1,155,982. Heading B6J. [Also in Division C3] A composition for etching planographic printing surfaces comprises an aqueous solution containing a film-forming itaconic acid polymer, or a copolymer thereof with acrylic acid, having a molecular weight in the range 15,000-200,000 the polymer or copolymer in aqueous solution at 33% solids content having a viscosity between 100 and 4000 c.p.s.; and the polymer or copolymer being at least partially neutralized by an inorganic salt buffering agent, e.g. aluminium acid phosphate, monosodium phosphate, monopotassium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, zinc phosphate, nickel phosphate, copper phosphate, cadmium phosphate or aluminium sulphate. Wood alcohol may also be present.
