Abstract

1,155,958. Photo-developable emulsions. GEVAERT-AGFA N. V. Oct. 7, 1966 [Oct. 11, 1965], No. 42975/65. Heading G2C. A photographic element comprises a radiationsensitive silver halide emulsion layer of the lightdevelopable type, to which are added (i) a silver iodide sol and/or a compound which yields free iodide ions in an aqueous medium and (ii) a halogen acceptor of formula:- wherein X is O or S, R is H, alkyl, substituted alkyl or aryl and y completes a heterocyclic nucleus. Many nuclei completed by y are listed containing imino, aryl, sulpho, aniline, mercapto, alkyl, hydroxy, pyridyl and ethoxy-carbonylamino substituents. Specified compounds yielding iodide ions are alkali and alkaline earth metal, ammonium and quaternary alkyl ammonium iodides, 1-methyl-8-hydroxy-quinolinium iodide, 1-methyl- 2-iodo-quinolinium iodide, 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydro-8- hydroxy-1, 1-dimethyl-quinoliniumiodide, benzyl, triphenyl phosphonium iodide, 5, 5<SP>1</SP>-bis-(dimethyl)- hexa methylene-1, 6-disulphonium iodide, 3, 5- dimorpholino-dithiolium iodide diphenyl iodonium iodide, mono-iodo acetic acid, 4-iodo-butane sulphonic acid potassium salt, trimethyl (O-methoxycarbonyl-anitinium) dichloroiodate and benzyl triphenyl-phosphonium dichloroiodate. The element may be developed using an internal developer and fixed during or after photo-development or without photo-development at all. The emulsion may contain potassium thiocyanate, lead acetate, iodide ornitrate or cadmium chloride, bromide or nitrate and anti-foggants e.g. 2-mercapto-ethyl ester of carbanilic acid, 1 -phenyl-2-tetrazoline-5-thione and 4, 5, 6, 7-tetrabromo-1H-benzo-triazole.
