Abstract

1,155,935. Valves. R. C. LARSON. 29 Sept., 1967, No. 44553/67. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F4] A temperature responsive valve for controlling the flow of heating or cooling fluid to a radiator has a ball valve member 26 with two diametric passages 49, 50 therethrough which control the flow of fluid through apertures 55, 56 in the ball seat 24 and apertures 57, 58 in the housing. The ball is rotated by and attached to one end of a tube 27 connected to one end of a bimetallic spiral 29, the other end of which is connected to a stem 30 attached to a temperature setting arm 32 that is adjustable to a fixed position according to temperature requirements. The spiral 29 is subject to the fluid temperature in a radiator connected to the pipe 3 and also the air temperature. A further bimetallic spiral connected between the tube 27 and a sleeve valve 61 with opposed apertures 67, 68 moves the sleeve 61 so that the flow through the valve is via passage 49 or 50 according to whether hot or cold water is circulating. A pin 63 in the valve seat moving in a slot 66 of the sleeve limits the rotation of the latter so that the apertures 67, 68 therein are aligned with either passage 49 or 50.
