Abstract
1,155,883. Sintered Al-Cn-Mg alloys. ALLOYS RESEARCH & MFG. CORP. Aug. 18, 1966, No. 37118/66. Heading C7D. The shrinkage of powders consisting of Al and 1-10% by weight Cu during sintering is regulated by the addition of 0À05 to 20% by weight Mg in the form of powdered Mg or Al- Mg alloy. The Al powder may be in the form of fine or coarse powder, needles, fibres, shot, pellets, or scrap turnings. The Mg added should be prepared by atomization in helium to prevent formation of oxide films. The powder mixture is either cold pressed and sintered or hot pressed or cold or hot rolled and then sintered. With sufficient Mg added; the shrinkage is completely counteracted and net expansion results.
