Abstract
1,155,310. The antibiotic tylosin. ELI LILLY & CO. 26 Oct., 1966, No. 48080/66. Heading C2A. The antibiotic tylosin is produced in increased yield by the fermentation of Streptomyces fradiae NRRL 2702 or NRRL 2703 in a nutrient medium containing, as additive, 25 mcg./ml. to 1500 mcg./ml. of a crude tylosine hydrolyzate, desmycosin, O-mycaminosyl tylonolide, dihydrodesmycosin, dihydro - O - mycaminosyl tylonolide, mycarose, mycinose or mycaminose. The crude tylosin hydrolyzate may be produced by heating an aqueous solution of tylosin, or a salt thereof, at pH 2À0, washing the resulting mixture with an immiscible organic solvent, and concentrating the aqueous phase to dryness. It is preferred to add 100 to 200 mcg./ml. of the additive, and to make the addition up to 48 hours after the initiation of the fermentation. Tylosin is recovered from the fermentation broth in a conventional manner.
