Abstract
1,154,166. Polyethylene terephthalate. NIPPON SODA K.K. 19 May, 1966 [19 May, 1965(2); 21 July, 1965; 24 Sept., 1965], No. 22407/66. Heading C3R. In the manufacture of polyesters by polycondensing a mixture of bis(beta-hydroxyethyl)terephthalate or an oligomer thereof and terephthalic acid in an amount not exceeding 90 mol per cent based on the bis(beta-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate or its equivalent amount of oligomer, there is used as a catalyst a dicyclopentadienyl titanium dihalide. As an additional catalyst the organic germanium compounds of Specification 1,154,167, may be used. The reaction mixture may include up to 15 mol per cent of isophthalic, adipic, sebacic, isosebacic or p-hydroxybenzoic acid or their alkyl or hydroxyalkyl esters.
