Abstract

1,268,442. Injection moulded polyester. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 21 March, 1969 [23 March, 1968], No. 14966/69. Heading C3R. A transparent, colourless shaped article is prepared by injection moulding a linear saturated polyester derived from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a mixture of from 0 to 95 mole per cent of ethylene glycol and from 5 to 100 mole per cent of a diol of formula wherein R 1 , R 2 are hydrogen or C 1 to C 4 alkyl groups. Specified diols are: 2-ethyl-2-butylpropanediol - (1,3); 2,2 - diethyl - propanediol- (1,3); 2 - methyl - 2 - propyl - propanediol-(1,3) and neopentyl glycol (2,2-dimethyl propanediol). The polyester may also contain up to 10 mole per cent of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, e.g. succinic, adipic or sebacic acid. The specified aromatic acids are terephthalic and isophthalic acids. In the examples, polyesters are prepared from dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol and neopentyl glycol.
