Abstract

1,153,906. Polymer compositions. B. F. GOODRICH CO. 28 Sept., 1966 [29 Sept., 1965], No. 43221/66. Headings C3P and C3R. Adhesives for ethylene/propylene/diene rubbers comprise (1) a copolymer of dicyclopentadiene and a C 2-12 α-olefin and (2) a resorcinol formaldehyde resin. The olefin may be ethylene, propylene, butene- 1, octene-1 or dodecene-1. The adhesives may be used for bonding rubbers to textile materials, particularly rayon and nylon tyre cords. In an example a copolymer of ethylene and dicyclopentadiene is dissolved in benzene, the solution is dispersed in water containing an alkylaryl sulphonate emulsifier and the solvent is then stripped, the resulting latex is mixed aqueous solutions containing resorcinol-formaldehyde resin and ammonium hydroxide, and formaldehyde.
