Abstract

1,153,361. Radiator shutters. H.B.R. METAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 3 Feb., 1967 [7 Feb., 1966], No. 5257/66. Heading F4S. [Also in Division E2] A support for a rotatable device comprises a frame 15 in which an element 1 is rotatably supported by a bush 3 for each end of the element, each bush being rotatably carried by the frame, one of the bushes having a slot 6 of partially circular cross-section the wall of which subtends an angle greater than 180 degrees and adapted for the reception of a bush engaging member 2 of the element, the relative dimensions of the bush engaging member and the mouth of the slot being such that the bush engaging member can be located in the slot by snap action resulting from pressure on the bush engaging member or the element exerted in a radial direction relative to the axis of the slot. In the construction shown each bush includes a disc like portion from one face of which a projection 5 extends, the projection defining the slot 6; from the other face of the disc like portion a pin 13 protrudes, this pin providing the means by which bush 3 is rotatably mounted in a bush in the frame 15. As described the element is one of the vanes of a vehicle radiator shutter, and the projection 5 of each fastening device includes two portions 8 which engage the vane to ensure movement of the vane with the bush. The bush one end of the vane is also provided with a pivot pin 14 and in the shutter the pivot pins 14 of all of the vanes engage an operating slide 18 which is biased to an upper position by a spring the arrangement ensuring that movement of the slide moves all the vanes. Movement of the slide is achieved by a thermostat 22 through a thrust transmitting plunger 23 and a thrust arm 24. The thermostat is in turn controlled by the engine cooling water which enters the thermostat through an inlet 25 and returns to the cooling system at 26. Each vane is provided with a sealing strip 11 so that in closed position it will seal against the adjacent vane.
