Abstract
1,153,264. Container closures. AKERLUND & RAUSING A.B. 5 Feb., 1968 [14 Feb., 1967; 10 Nov., 1967], No. 5687/68. Heading B8T. [Also in Division B2] A plastics closure, e.g. for use as a spray cap, comprises an inner cylindrical part 1, snapfitted to a flexible plastics container and carrying a concentric rotatable outer cap 2, the closure having a discharge passage 14 from which depends a tube 13, and a second outlet passage 15, both passages 14, 15 leading to a common diametric outlet passage 15 in the outer cap 2 so that, on squeezing the container, air leaving through passages 15, 16 causes an ejector effect, facilitating spraying out of liquid leaving the vessel through passages 13, 14, 16. By rotating the cap 2, the passages 14, 15 and 16 are moved into or out of alignment and annular beads 18, 19 around the outlet passages seal against the inner top surface of the cap 2 in the closed position. Rotation is limited by two abutment flanges 10 on the outer cap 2 which impinge in the fully open and closed positions against an abutment pin (11), Fig. 2 (not shown), mounted on an attachment flange 3 around the base of the inner part 11. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), the bead 19 is modified as a thinwalled flange (19<SP>1</SP>), a slight protuberance (21<SP>1</SP>) being formed on the inner surface of the outer cap member (2<SP>1</SP>) in the form of a ridge, which is longer and narrower than the diameter of the discharge opening (15<SP>1</SP>). This results in extremely small openings (22<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 7 (not shown), being present in the closed position which, although too small to effect the sealing properties, allow air to enter the container when the pressure within it is below atmospheric. In a further modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), the protuberance (21<SP>11</SP>) is laterally displaced in relation to the flange (19<SP>11</SP>) which is located in contact with the protuberance so that air may enter the container as before.
