1,152,760. Ascension pipes. GOSUDARSTVENNY VSESOJUZNY INSTITUT PO PROEKTIROVANIJU PREDPRIATY KOKSOKHIMICHESKOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI. 13 Dec., 1967 [17 Dec., 1966], No. 56663/67. Heading C5E. The ascension pipe 1 from a coke oven is connected to the gas collector main 6 by a pipe bend 5 in which is mounted a swivelling damper 10, an injector 8 facing the gas collector and nozzles 14 for supplying a stream of liquid in the direction of flow of the gases being drawn-off. The injector 8 is arranged to direct a stream of steam or gas between the edges 12 and 13 of the damper and pipe bend. The two nozzles 14 (Fig. 2, not shown), for supplying liquid, e.g. ammoniated water, are arranged at an angle to each other and are disposed in a plane parallel to the open position of the damper so as to wash away charging material which may be deposited on the damper and on the pipe bend below the damper. A jet 7 is positioned in the upper portion of the pipe bend for supplying water to the drawn-off gases. The cover 2 on the ascension pipe can be operated by the levers 4 which carry a counterweight 3 and the damper is operated by a lever 9. A mechanism is provided on a coal-charging car for controlling valves for the water and steam.
