Abstract

1348452 Hydrocyclones AMBERGER KAOLINWERKE GmbH 20 July 1972 [24 July 1971] 34043/72 Heading B2P A centrifuge, e.g. hydrocyclone, assembly comprises at least two laterally spaced centrifuges 5, 6, a feed chamber 1, an overflow chamber 2 and an underflow chamber 11 positioned centrally of the centrifuges with the underflow chamber 11 located below the feed chamber 1 and the overflow chamber 2, each of the centrifuges being disposed at an angle to the vertical with its underflow outlet directed towards the underflow chamber, the feed chamber 1 being located above the overflow chamber 2, and separate feed connections 3, 4 extending rectilinearly outwardly from the feed chamber 1 to the respective centrifuges 5, 6. Arcuate overflow connections 7, 8 connect the upper ends to the hydrocyclones to the overflow chamber 2. A supply pipe 9 is connected to the lower portion of the feed chamber and passes through the overflow chamber 2 and between the latter and chamber 11. In a modification, the supply pipe is vertical and passes centrally of the chamber 2 and 11, the latter chamber in this case having two outlets located laterally of the supply pipe. In a further modification the supply pipe enters the top of the feed chamber. A collecting chamber 13, Fig. 3, for gases may communicate with the feed chamber 1 through an aperture 14. A transparent control indicator tube 15 is joined to the upper end of chamber 13 and communicates with a valve 16 to the atmosphere. In Fig. 5, a hemispherically shaped wear protection part 17 and an arcuately shaped plate 21 joined thereto are supported in the upper half of the feed chamber 1 and form between them a space 22 to which a sealed pipe 23 opening to atmosphere is connected. If a part of the liquid jet 19 entering the feed chamber penetrates the wear protection part 17 the leak would be detected due to the flow through pipe 23. Other arrangement of wear protection parts and wear indication devices in the feed chamber are described. In Fig. 7, two functional groups F 1 , F 2 of hydrocyclones are shown. The feed, overflow and underflow chambers 1, 2, 11 are divided by vertical partitions 24, 27 and 30 respectively into two functionally independent halves. A modified feed chamber divided in halves and having wear protection parts and wear indication devices is described.
