Abstract

1,152,619. Settling tank. UDO PASSAVANT A.G. 22 Dec., 1966 [23 Dec., 1965], No. 57585/66. Heading B1D. A scraper blade 8 is pivotally suspended from a travelling gantry 5 by arm(s) 7 and is raised or lowered by a motor 15 which may rest on the gantry but can be lifted therefrom so that its weight serves to urge blade 8 downwards. In Fig. 1, electric motor 15 operates an extendable arm 12, 13, 14, which may be oil-filled and is pivoted at 11 to arm 7. A lever 18 is pivoted to the gantry at 19 and carries the motor, universally pivoted thereto, and an axially movable weight 21. The motor is controlled by a switch 25, actuated by a stop 24 on lever 18, so that after blade 8 has engaged the bottom 1 of the settling tank the motor continues to. turn, lifting lever 18 so that the weight 21 and the weight of the motor act through arm 12 ... 14 on the blade. Alternatively, the motor is controlled by switch 26 and adjustable contact 27, whereby the blade is simply lowered to a preselected position, in which lever 18 rests on its stop 22, and only when the blade meets resistance is lever 18 raised to exert weight thereon. Switch 25 may be located in the place of. stop 22. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the extendable arm 12, 14 is vertical and the motor 15 is raised vertically in roller bearings so that its weight acts on blade 8. In both embodiments, when the blade 8 is being raised the motor (and weight) are supported by the gantry. Extendable arm 12, 14 may employ a rotating screw and captive nut or a rack and pinion. Blade 8 sweeps solids into a sump.
