364,535. Gravity-separation apparatus. DORR CO., 247, Park Avenue, New York, U.S.A. Aug. 25, 1930, No. 25385. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1929. [Class 111.] Apparatus for removing solid matter from the settling chambers of sewage-treating plant comprises a pivoted scraper, suspended from a carrier which is reciprocated by a motor mounted thereon, along the top of the chamber, means being provided for raising the scraper from its operative position automatically as the carrier reaches the end of the scraping movement. With the apparatus shown the settled matter is pushed by a scraper 15 into a trough 14 at one end of the chamber, from which it is discharged by a conveyer 16. The scraper is supported by arms 18 connected to levers 48 with counterweights 50 on a shaft 46 supported by a carriage 17. The carriage is moved on rails over the tank by an electric motor receiving current from overhead wires 34. The inclination of the arms 18 is determined by springs 56 which allow the arms to lift when the scraper encounters exceptional obstruction. The switch of the motor is reversed automatically and the levers 48 turned to raise or lower the arms 18, when rollers 70 on arms fixed to the shaft 46 engage stops 68 at either end of the travel. The motion of the levers 48 is limited by dashpots 52 with plungers 53.
