Abstract
1434161 Screw conveyers H D FENSKE 1 March 1974 [2 March 1973] 9423/74 Heading B8A [Also in Divisions E1-E2] An auger assembly mounted on an earth. moving bowl type scraper to remove scraped up material into the bowl of the scraper away from the scraper bladed entrance of the bowl is such that the lower end or ends of the vertically disposed auger or augers of the assembly can move laterally within the bowl on being engaged by oversize material entering the bowl to prevent rotational jamming of the auger(s). The assembly has a framework having a pair of spaced apart arms 80 that can be pivotally attached at 81 to the sides of the bowl so that the auger(s) can also be moved vertically. The lateral movement can be obtained by provision in the framework for the upper end of the or of each auger shaft of a bearing support means that will permit of the required lateral movement. Preferably the bearing support means comprise two vertically spaced support means of which the upper one involves a bearing housing 104 for a spherical formation 73 on the auger shaft 72 whilst the lower one involves a resilient restraining means 90 so surrounding the shaft as to limit lateral swinging of the shaft whilst applying a return bias thereto. The auger assembly can be swung out of the bowl by the apron when it is raised to allow of discharge of collected up material from the bowl.
