Abstract

1,152,174. Loud-speakers. LTV LING ALTEG Inc. 24 May, 1966 [24 May, 1965], No. 23228/66. Heading H4J. The rear of a loud-speaker diaphragm is sealed in a chamber, one of the walls of the chamber comprising a vibratile member. - At least a portion of the vibratile member is arranged so that sound therefrom is radiated in the same general direction as sound from the front of the diaphragm. The diaphragm 2 (Fig. 1) of a moving-coil loudspeaker is compliantly sealed to a vibratile panel 10, thereby forming an airtight chamber 12. Portions 14 extend beyond the edges of the frame 6. In operation, vibration of the diaphragm 2 imparts energy to an air column 16 which drives the panel 10. Vibration of portions 14 drives the air in front of such portions. The panel 10 may be a car roof. For installation on a rigid wall 24 (Fig. 2) openings 26 are provided in the frame 6 and vibratile panels 28 are compliantly sealed to the frame 6.
