Abstract
1,152,071. Vehicle suspension. SOC. DES AUTOMOBILES SIMCA. 29 Nov., 1966 [29 Nov., 1965], No. 53502/66. Heading B7D. In a motor vehicle suspension system trailing arm 3 and 4, mounting wheels 1 and 2, are provided parallel to the vehicle longitudinal axis and mounted on pivoting bodies 6 having pivot pins 7 supported by flexible bearings, the inner pin 7 of each body 6 housing articulately one end of a torsion bar 15, 16 arranged obliquely with respect to the common pivot axis x-y of the arms and extending substantially the width of the vehicle with its other end secured to the vehicle body or chassis. The articulated joint comprises the end of a torsion bar shaped as a screwdriver blade 14 within a rectangular section bore 13 in a pin 7. The flexible bearings comprise inner and outer rings 8 and 10 sandwiching a resilient sleeve 9. The torsion bars are anchored at their ends 19 in supports 20, 22 in the form of right-angle brackets. The hexagonal ends of the bars are engaged in corresponding holes 30 in levers 29, the other end of the levers being fixed by a screw 31 in any one of a number of holes arranged in an arc in one flange of the brackets. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5, the torsion bars 34, 35 are arranged oblique to a horizontal plane and have their ends mounted in supports 40, 40a fixed to a tube 37. The ends of tube 37 and pivot pins 39 are fixed to brackets 38, 38a which are resiliently bolted to the vehicle body. The assembly is further supported by bolts passing through holes 43.
