Abstract
1,152,049. Acrylic acid. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 16 Aug., 1966 [24 Aug., 1965], No. 36579/66. Heading C2C. Propylene is oxidized to acrylic acid in the vapour phase at 300-500‹ C. in the presence of a catalyst containing an oxide of Mo and at least one oxide of Nb and/or Ta. The propylene feed may contain saturated hydrocarbons, e.g. propane of ethane or other inert gases, e.g. nitrogen, argon, neon, flue gas, steam or carbon dioxide. The reaction may be effected in a fixed or fluidized bed. The catalysts may additionally contain As 2 O 3 or As 2 O 5 and may be supported on SiO 2 , TiO 2 , SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 or SiC. Acetic acid and acrolein are by-products.
