Abstract

1,151,268. Textile treating apparatus. W. W. MACOMSON. 1 Sept., 1966, No. 39160/66. Heading D1L. Apparatus for the fluid treatment of web material comprises a tank 12 containing a treating fluid maintained at a predetermined level, means guiding the web W in a predetermined path through the tank and treating fluid, and spraying means 32 disposed' within the tank; the spraying means comprises a housing partially disposed within the fluid and having an inlet below the fluid level and an outlet above the fluid level, the outlet having associated therewith nozzle means 83 directing treating fluid towards the path of the web W, and of a length corresponding to the web width, impeller means 41 being provided within the said housing to discharge fluid through the outlet. The nozzle means 83 comprises a pair of elongate plates pivotally mounted on the housing of the spraying means on opposite sides of the outlet, the direction of flow and the width of the nozzle opening thereby being variable. The effective length of the nozzle opening is variable by means of baffle plates pivotally mounted at opposite ends of the opening, the baffle plates being movable between covering and uncovering positions. The impeller preferably comprises a centrifugal impeller including a shaft and radially directed curved vanes, the speed of rotation of the impeller being variable. The means guiding the web into and out of the tank preferably consist of guide rolls 23, 25, 26 and 30, the web following a substantially vertical path into and out of the tank. In a preferred embodiment, a pair of spray means is arranged at the entry and at the exit of the web relative to the treating fluid in the tank 12, the spray means being directed towards opposite faces of the web. In the preferred embodiment, a baffle plate 20 is provided within the tank forming separate treatment chambers 12a and 12b.
