Abstract
1,151,212. Valves. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. 12 Aug., 1966 [13 May, 1965], No. 20256/65. Heading F2V. An exhalation valve for a respiratory mask, comprises a diaphragm closure member 19 cooperating with a seat and, in the closed position, the diaphragm closes inlet ports 14 and outlet ports 15. The outlet ports are arranged in a stepped manner such that as the valve opens, the outlet ports 15 are opened progressively. The valve is preferably loaded to the closed position by pressure, such as oxygen pressure, supplied through pipe 25 and this pressure is normally cut off during exhalation. If the pressure in the pipe 25 should fall below atmospheric, the diaphragm will close passages 28 without opening the outlets 15. In a modification the diaphragm is spring-loaded and cooperates with a conical seat.
