Abstract

1,150,856. Drying tobacco. HAUNI-WERKE KÍRBER & CO. K.G. 11 Sept., 1967 [30 Sept., 1966], No. 41326/67. Heading F4G. [Also in Division A2] In a method of reconstituting tobacco (see Division A2), extruded tobacco paste is dried: (1) by conveying an extruded sheet through a drying chamber wherein it is subjected to drying air in both current and counter-current streams; (2) by air flowing as a counter-current helical stream of increasing velocity towards the top of a cone-shaped container down which extruded tobacco fibres are falling, the drying air being recirculated and passing through an air conditioning unit en route; and (3) by air flowing in counter-current vertically upwards within a cylindrical container down which tobacco fibres are falling, extruded tobacco strands having been broken to form the fibres by horizontal air jets sited at the top of the container just below the extrusion nozzles.
