1,150,682. Dry powder fire extinguishing compositions. NU-SWIFT INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 29 Jan., 1968 [9 Feb., 1967], No. 6140/67. Heaiding A5A. [Also in Division C1] A dry fire-extinguishing powder comprises ammonium sulphate, ammonium phosphate (mono-ammonium and/or di-ammonium phosphate) and potassium bicarbonate and, as inert additives, micronised minerals halving free OH-groups, the minerals having been dried to a moisture content of not more than 0.05% by weight and rendered hydrophobic by treatment with chlorine-free hydrogen silicone oils. #Micronised" is defined as 90% of the particles being <10Á, and "hydrogen silicone oils" as oils with silicon and hydrogen directly bonded. The minerals may be amphiboles or pyroxenes with free OH- groups obtained in geological development or by alkali hydroxide treatment. Preferably the ammonium sulphate and (phosphate are treated with neutral to acid minerals and the potassium bicarbonate with neutral to alkaline ones. The hydrogen silicone oil. may be augmented with a silicone oil without active hydrogen to the extent of 30% by weight of the mixture. Preferably each active ingredient is separately pre-mixed with inert additive before mixture.
